I have decided: John McCain

I am sure that I will draw the ire of my liberal friends and relatives. To be sure, Barak Obama is a respectable and worthy candidate. But recent events in Georgia only reinforce the idea that the Cold War has resumed. At the same time American power is on the decline.
My feeling is that only somebody with a strong and conservative moral compass will be able to face down the Russians and deal with the challenges that America faces in the coming decade. America stands to lose alot-- its status as a great superpower, its vital economic interests around the world, and its ability to support its free and democratic allies across the globe.

If so why hasn't George W. Bush been able to keep Russia in line? I think the Republicans have shown us what they are capable of. It's time for a strong leader from another party. Barack Obama has the ability and the character to restore America's respect in the world. McCain is just the Same old, same Old.

Good to see you here!

You ask a good question, particularly regarding the competence of the Bush team. I am open to alternatives, I just need to see specific policies and plans, not just a "change" for the sake of change. My concern is that Obama's impulses will be more of appeasement in the face of the West's enemies rather than confrontation (not necessarily militarily).

Here is Barack's Foreign Policy plan at his website:
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/foreignpolicy/

And here is his position on National Security:
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/defense/

If you want a President who is willing to confront the West's enemies ("not necessarily militarily") than look again at Obama. (link)

If you want a glimpse into McCain's "impulses" look no further than this video:
McCain Sings Bomb Iran, laughs

On McCain, it is interesting to note that on his issues page he doesn't have "Foreign Policy" as a subject. Only "National Security". Both candidates want to defend America and the West, the question is who is going to repeat the same mistakes of the previous administration.

If you're interested in seeing how Obama sounds when he is militant you should watch this video of clips from his speech to AIPAC:

Of course, as McCain is a 72 year old cancer survivor you need to seriously consider if Sarah Palin is someone you want as Commander in Chief. Just two years ago she was mayor of a town of about 7,000.

A vote for McCain is a vote for more of the same or potentially putting the country in the hands of a terrible unprepared person.
